What is Chamak?

ABOUT THE BRAND

_____

Show up. Really Show up. The Urdu word 'Chamak' comes from South Asia. It means to glam up. To bring your 'A' game. To Shine. Chamak is also Alina Shaikh - A born New Yorker and Brooklynite who brought her passion for fashion together with her Pakistani heritage, merging the craft of eastern embroidery with the streetwear culture of her youth. Chamak Society is Brooklyn. We elevate streetwear with traditional eastern motifs. We produce ethically. We're socially aware.

EMBROIDERED CRAFT

____

Each Chamak Society piece is individually embroidered and hand beaded. A traditional craft skill that is becoming rarer each day. Each piece goes towards supporting a community of female artisans in the North of Pakistan who have kept this heritage craft alive despite the odds. This is not fast fashion. This is slow living. Everything is considered. Each piece is made with care by a small family run facility, collaborating with a community of artisanal auntys who we support with fair wages, flexible working schedules, the ability to work from home, and a lot of appreciation. We take pride in every piece made, start to finish.

SMALL BUSINESS

____

We may be small but we are you - socially conscious, taste makers who believe that fashion can be thoughtful too, that we can build accessible, ethical brands and that sometimes beauty can be found in the conjoined roots of our majestic cultures.
